Author JL Campbell With and Interview and a Giveaway - Writing Women's Fiction and Romance

ANNOUNCEMENT: The winner of JL Campbell's giveaway is Maria McKenzie

It gives me great pleasure to welcome J L Campbell (aka Joy) to  MBB today. She is an award winning writer who live in sunny Jamaica.  She is always on the lookout for story making material and writes the most enjoyable women' s fiction as well as romance.  I'm discovering her fiction at the moment and all I can say is, she's an immensely talented author.  I'm enjoying her work so much.

Joy, what made you decide to become a writer/author?
I’ve been writing since my early days in high school. I’m not sure why, but I stopped writing for about twenty years until one day I thought about it and figured I could make money from writing articles. That’s how I started writing again and quickly moved to short stories and then novels.

Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
The island of Jamaica is rich in terms of the landscape and culture, so I’m able to find story-making material just about anywhere. One of my books came out of a news item, and a similar situation a friend of mine was in at the time. Another came from a conversation I had with another friend and as I create characters, other stories evolve.

Can you tell us a little about your writing routine?
I don’t have one, but once I get going on a story idea, I’ll write at any hour of the day or night. The year 2004 was when I took up writing again. Within five years, I wrote a number of novels, which are yet to be edited. Now, I only allow myself to write if I’m finishing up a story or if I go off at a tangent, as I have with the Blogging from A-Z Challenge. I’m trying to keep my focus on editing rather than writing.

Could you give us a simple summary of the essence of each of your novels DISTRACTION and RETRIBUTION in a sentence of 140 characters? That's the size of a Tweet.....
DISTRACTION - Three Jamaican women walk a minefield riddled with blackmail, deceit and infidelity.
RETRIBUTION - A disastrous extra-marital affair and a seven-year secret threaten to destroy the new life Justine has created for herself

What's next for you?
There’s a third book in the series that I’d like to complete by later this year. I’ve also released the first in a series of young adult novels. There’s also more romance on the horizon.

DISTRACTION

Three Jamaican women walk a tightrope of decisions when their lives are derailed by blackmail, deceit and infidelity.

JUSTINE CHARLES, sensible and self-contained, battles an addiction which could destroy her marriage, reputation, and relationship with her daughter.

DIONNE JONES, an aggressive go-getter, takes risks that cut a trail of devastation through her family and business.

KYRA MILLS, struggling single mother, is crippled by debt, bad judgment and destructive choices.

Can two of the long-time friends survive startling revelations involving their partners? And will the other push her obsession to the point of danger?

RETRIBUTION

JUSTINE CHARLES is still trying to put the pieces of her life together seven years after a disastrous extra-marital affair. She’s raising a troubled teenage daughter and six-year-old Emile, the result of her indiscretion.

A chance meeting drops the still-scorching Xavier McKellop back on her radar. Her former lover is hurt and furious that Justine has kept his son’s birth a secret. She has little choice when Xavier demands time with Emile.

Though the moments between Justine and Xavier are tense, it’s evident the flame of attraction between them still burns hot. And just as she begins to hope and dream about being with the only man who ever stirred her heart, body and soul, Justine’s life is thrown into chaos. Her daughter discovers Justine’s betrayal and Xavier’s soon-to-be ex-wife wants him back.

This time around, in her quest for love, Justine might not only lose her deepest desire, but everything she holds dear.

Review - 1857 Dust of Ages - The Forgotten Tale by Vandana Shanker

This has to be the first review on MBB in a very long time and it was well worth the wait. Anyone who likes Indian historical fiction is going to adore this beautiful read.

Maria Perry Mohan's Review of 1857 Dust of AgesVolume I -  A Forgotten Tale by Vandana Shankar

As historical fiction goes, this is first class. We’re literally getting glimpses of a fascinating story as seen through the eyes of today. Can it really be that an Indian royal family gave their daughter in marriage to a British Army officer?  Some say it could be impossible, but has the truth been covered up? And why?
Those glances back in time show teasing glimpses of a royal family at a crossroads. The queen’s consternation when a male hair has not been born and her greedy sister-in-law, the one who has a son, eyes up the kingdom. Would such a queen mother be good for a kingdom? Probably not.

The princess’s character comes through as a girl who has been born to lead her kingdom. The 19th century produced one of the gr…
